Your Subscription Might Be Non-Compliant
Subscriptions are easy to launch now.
Click a few buttons.
Set a price.
Turn on recurring billing.
Done.
Which is exactly why cancellation gets sloppy.
If someone starts a subscription, they should be clearly told:
How to cancel
Where to cancel
and what happens when they do
Here’s why this matters more than most people realize.
Regulators have been cracking down on cancellation friction.
The FTC’s stance is pretty simple:
If it’s easy to sign up, it shouldn’t be hard to get out.
But this isn’t just a legal issue.
It’s an operational one.
Most people don’t test cancellation.
They assume it works.
They check opt-in.. checkout.. usually upsells too then move on.
But cancellation is a reverse funnel.
And it breaks just as easily.
Here’s what should actually be tested:
> Is the cancel button/link easy to find?
> Does it work on desktop and mobile?
> Does it actually stop billing?
> Does it cancel any third party integrations?
> Is access removed when you say it will be?
> Does a confirmation email fire?
> Are there any surprise charges later?
This isn’t a one-time check.
Because cancellation paths drift.
Billing portals change.
Account pages get redesigned.
Emails get edited.
Someone “simplifies” a workflow.
Everything still looks fine..
until a customer complains.
Or a refund hits.
Or a chargeback shows up.
That’s the real risk.
This is where monitoring with something like Funnel Pulse matters.
Clear cancellation is a promise.
Making sure that promise keeps being honored.. even as systems change.. is how you protect your customers and your business.
If it’s easy to join,
it has to stay easy to leave.
